Nicky's Artwork

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.

Edgar Degas

When I paint I try and convey my feelings about a place, or the personality of my sitter.

When portraying landscapes or botanical forms, I often use a semi-abstract style, where colour, movement and texture take centre stage.

In painting a pet portrait, I seek to find and show the character of the animal. I find it hugely satisfying to recreate the detail in their coat, or the shine on their eyes or nose.

I use acrylic paints mostly, but I also enjoy the looseness of watercolours and inks.

In 2021 I was a Wildcard on the Sky Landscape Artist of the Year programme. It was a real privilege and a fantastic experience.

Pet Portraits

I thoroughly enjoy painting our furry friends, capturing their likeness with my use of colour and attention to detail. I can work from a good photo, and I am happy to discuss particular features with a client.
